Oregano is inextricably linked with Mediterranean cuisine. Like any herb, Oregano has more to offer than just a great taste. Oregano contains two essential oils: thymol and carvacol. Thymol has very strong antiseptic properties and destroys fungi and bacteria. Carvacol destroys some types of dangerous bacteria, such as e.g. E. coli which causes intestinal problems, therefore Oregano is used for intestinal problems and promotes digestion. Oregano also helps from mental exhaustion, so it got a nice Czech name Dobromysl (Good mind).
